This thesis deals with the topic of individual parliamentary scrutiny of European affairs in Slovakia. The aim of this thesis is to determine which factors influenced the formally strong system of parliamentary scrutiny in the Slovak National Assembly. 6 factors will be analyzed - Late accession to the EU, parliamentary strength, bargaining strength in the Council of EU, public euroscepticism, euroscepticism of political parties and the frequency of coalition and minority governments. The strength of parliamentary scrutiny can also be influenced by informal aspects. The informal aspects in this thesis will be mainly concerned with the efforts of the members of the European Affairs Committee to acquire additional information about legislative proposals of the EU in an informal way and also their efforts for a better cooperation in parliamentary scrutiny among various political parties. The empirical analysis found, that the factor of late accession to the EU and euroscepticism of political parties had the biggest effect on the formally strong system of parliamentary scrutiny in Slovakia. A partial effect can be also attributed to the factors of public euroscepticism and the frequency of coalition and minority governments. Even though a formally strong system of parliamentary scrutiny does exist in...
Politicization of the European Commission
Laščiak, Dušan ; Knutelská, Viera (advisor) ; Plechanovová, Běla (referee)
The thesis deals with the concept of politicization of the European Commission. It stems from the assumption that the new election procedure of the President of the Commission which is connected to the nomination of so-called Spitzenkandidaten, i.e. the lead candidates of the political parties before the elections to the European Parliament, led to the strengthening of the Parliament and subsequent politicization of the Commission. The new President of the Commission thus comes from the strongest political party which ran the elections with his candidature. The thesis formulates four hypotheses while focusing on three main areas which might be influenced by politicization: public opinion awareness, strengthening of the political affiliation of the commissioners as well as of the whole College of commissioners, and change of its inner composition - the political experience should become more prominent when choosing the suitable candidates for the commissioners. The analysis shows that it is possible to trace a positive trend in public opinion awareness from the side of the European Commission. Furthermore, it indicates the political assignment of individual portfolios among commissioners. On the other hand, the strengthening of the political affiliation of the Commissions and the change of the inner...

Analysis of the impact of cultural and political factors on European integration assessment based on public opinion of selected countries
Bročková, Klaudia ; Jelen, Libor (advisor) ; Anděl, Jiří (referee)
In the past few years, European integration has often encountered resistance from individual countries when deepening cooperation in specific European policies. The different sociocultural, political and historical backgrounds of the individual member states prove to be potentially problematic, and it appears there is also great diversity in the attitudes of European public opinion. The presented work deals with the issue of the perception of European integration in EU countries, with the aim of evaluating to what extent the current attitude of public opinion towards European integration can be explained by the cultural-political dimension of attitudes. Factor and regression analysis were used to examine the relationships and measure the significance of the impacts. The cultural-political dimension - represented by factors such as political assessment, immigration assessment, religion and traditionalism, and emotional attachment - explains, based on the results of the regression analysis, on average 22 % of the overall attitude towards European integration. However, the values differ significantly in the conditions of individual countries. The results also questioned the attachment to the national country or the importance of religiosity and traditionalism, as important predictors in rejecting...
